Welcome to Angry North's philosophy class.
Today we are going to dive right in with the question: do we get the governments that we deserve?

Verse 1
He was so confident, I thought he was arrogant
He seemed to think that he knew it all, I thought he was ignorant
He thought the state’s theft and force was legitimate
I saw only as a poor deluded sycophant

He believed that government could be truly benevolent
serving the weak and the poor, not ever malevolent
Only ever doing good works through being violent
He was a real clever fool, a glutton for punishment

Seemed to think that titles, pomp and ceremony,
Excused these inhuman beings from all morality
His mind was twisted, so much that he couldn’t see
Couldn’t recognise all their crimes against him or me

He wore such rose-tinted specs I though he just hadn’t learned nothing yet
seemed he’d never learned so many things that I’d begun to forget
He thought those crooks worked for him, hypnosis just so deep set
That they were bought and paid for was something he just couldn’t get

Everything, this man said to me, I stood against it, so vehemently
And with his intelligence, pride and arrogance, he’d just defend the things he’d always believed

We were set apart to different ends of the earth when he said

That was so long ago and many years have passed by
I guess he’s waiting there still for better puppets up high
we must still be worlds apart, this statist and I
But I can’s shake what he said no matter how hard I try

We’re possessed by groupthink – subject to thinking shortcuts,
and we’re too lazy to read our instruction book
just someone’s toys and they keep winding us up
Where this road we’re on leads we can’t be bothered to look

So few of us see it’s a duty and a necessity
to always question what we’re told by claimed authority
We take the fake news and trivia, they want us to see
And let them paint a fake image of reality

We place no value at all on being any kind of free
And don’t base and stances on any real morality
We swap our conscience, for blind conformity
and wear fake badges of virtue, for other slaves to see

We like knowing our place and we love our slavery
We shit on lessons we should have learned from history,
We so suffer terminal suicidal naivety
We insist on believing in our predator’s empathy
